Married Man

Wow.

Sorry to any followers for being away far too long. April. Crikey.

A lot has happened since the spring, including me getting married and starting on a new all-encompassing project.

This has been taking up a lot of my time so I haven't produced as much of the 'me' stuff as I'd have liked. So, to make up for it, I'll post a few images I've done so far for the book I'm working on.

Hope you enjoy.

Carl

Magneto: The Creator

Of course, he is X-Men bad-guy, Magneto.

In a misjudged swap from his traditional uniform, Magneto was seen wearing this in a 60's run in with the original X-Men in the Savage Land where he 'created' the Mutates. It was made all the worse when he added his purple helmet and cape.

Oh, dear...

The Creator

Anyone remember this guy? Points to those who can. His identity will be revealed tomorrow with an extra addition that'll make him look "FAB-ulous!" and reveal my main reason for drawing him.

Time flies...

Hi all.

I can't believe I haven't updated this blog since last June. No idea why not.

I'll rectify that by posting this cover I did last week for The Psychedelic Journal Of Time Travel issue three.

I was asked to come up with something along the theme of time travel and to stay away from the usual 'go back and kill Hitler' which has been done to death. So I just threw everything at the wall in order to see what sticks.

I hope you and the readers of the Journal like it. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

And for anyone who is on twitter and want to see what I get up to over there, just click the link and follow my arse over there too.

Cheers!

Wild Papa Woods Out Today.

Hello all.

My latest book (I say "my" book, but I've only done the pictures) Wild Papa Woods is out today. If you fancy taking a look, or even buying, you can find it here.

It's part of Pearson's Bug Club series and was written by Patrice Lawrence.  I enjoyed working on this. I was pretty ill at the time and would have loved more time on the colours due to me feeling like death twice reheated.

Parts of this remind me of the work I did on The Silence Seeker. Some of it is... not so good, but what the heck, you learn and move on and learn again. You never stop.

Cheers

Carl

Tropical Aspirations.

Just thought I'd pop a couple of images I've just completed for a book about the Philippines. I wanted something warm and aspirational, hence the steamy diffused colours.

God, I'm ready for some warm weather, sun, sea and sand...

These were roughed out on cartridge paper in blue, very choppy, then cleaned up in blue and light-box-traced onto a clean piece of cartridge with a HB technical pencil. Hopefully you can't tell the difference between this and an ink line, which I usually use.

I fine I draw much more freely and my lines are more organic when I use a pencil. I worry about cock ups with ink and I can put a bit more pressure on the pencil without fear of snapping a nib.

Let me know what you think about my pencil lines over the ink.

Cheers for now

Carlos!

Yikes!

Yikes!

I can't believe that I haven't updated yet this year. To make up for it here are a few image from some jobs I've been working on so far in 2013. I'll have to try harder!

Above is a piece of final colour work for a kid's book I've just completed for Pearson. Below is a sheet of sketch ideas for a job about climate change on a Polynesian island.

Below are two images from the previous book again. The first of which being a before and after showing the pencil rough and the final inked and coloured picture.

There you go. I hope you enjoy them.

See ya later!

Carlos.
